NTG3.5 Map Code

NTG3.5 is the oldest head unit that supports map updates through a USB stick and a license key. It is also the only generation Mercedes never put on the Download Manager, so you download the map files from the links on this page instead.

How to identify NTG3.5

Go by chassis. NTG3.5 only appears in the W221 S-Class and the W216 CL facelift, from 2009 on. Anything else in that era is an older NTG3 or a legacy unit we can't generate codes for.

NTG3.5 region compatibility for imported cars

NTG3.5 head units are region-locked at the factory. If your car's region is Korea, Southeast Asia, Japan, or China, imports from those countries included, it will not accept a map from another region such as Africa / Middle East or Europe. The code makes no difference to that.

Before you buy, do one of these:

• Change your head unit's region first by finding a service online, or
• Replace the head unit entirely

We don't refund codes bought against this warning, and we show the same warning in the code generation dialog. Check your region first.

How to download the map update files

NTG3.5 is not available on the Mercedes Download Manager (DLM), unlike the later NTG versions. You have to download the map update files yourself from the reuploaded links below:

USB formatting (FAT32)

• Requirement: the USB must be formatted as FAT32 for NTG3.5 units to accept the update.
• If Windows will not let you format large USB drives as FAT32, use the GUIFormat utility.
  • Download GUIFormat.
  • Open the tool, select your USB drive, set Allocation Unit Size to 32768 (32K), leave Volume Label optional, and click Start.

Inserting the files into the USB

Each map package contains multiple numbered folders (USB1, USB2, etc), and each one is extracted onto a separate USB drive, in the main root folder.

You end up with several USB drives, each holding its own section of the map update package, so keep track of the order they go in.

Plug the first USB into the car and begin the update, following the instructions the car gives you.

If the car refers to the software update as being through a DVD, follow the instructions but with the respective USBs required.
