Mercedes US to Europe Conversion
Convert a US-market Mercedes head unit to the European variant for European maps, and what the cluster, radio, and lights need separately. NTG5s2 and NTG6 equipment and remote help.
A Mercedes built for the US keeps a US head unit variant after import, so European maps can refuse to install. Cluster units and lighting are checked separately.
Check your head unit
| Head unit | What you need | Remote help |
|---|---|---|
| NTG5s2 (HU5) | ENET cable, Windows laptop with diagnostic software, USB stick, and a battery support charger | We help remotely on your laptop. The USB steps happen at the car. |
| NTG6 (HU6) | ENET cable and a programmer such as VVDI. The head unit comes out of the car. | We check your setup and reads. The programmer work is done on the bench by you or a workshop. |
| NTG5s1, NTG5.5, NTG7, Gen20x | Contact us first | Depends on the unit |
On NTG5s2, a US unit moves to the European variant without the software flash a Japanese unit needs. Examples our tool already handles: US C-Class W205 units with a single-DVD COMAND, and some S-Class W222 units with a DVD changer. For NTG6, we check the unit's memory read to confirm a compatible European variant. The VIN alone cannot establish this.
Not sure which head unit you have? Car Lookup reads your data card and reports the NTG version and the market the car was built for. Or send us the VIN.
The parts of a US car
- Head unit. The conversion above. After it, install European maps with the map data and a map activation code for your VIN.
- Instrument cluster. Check the cluster's settings menu for unit changes first. Changes that need coding depend on the cluster and are assessed separately.
- Radio. HD Radio and SiriusXM don't work in Europe. DAB needs a DAB tuner and antenna. Coding can't add them if the car doesn't have them.
- Lights. Side markers, indicators, and headlight beam pattern are inspection items. Some need parts. We don't certify cars for road use.
FAQ
Can you convert the head unit and the cluster remotely?
Cluster coding can run remotely where the cluster supports the change. The head unit depends on the generation: NTG5s2 runs remotely through your laptop, and NTG6 needs programmer work on the bench. Send the VIN first. NTG6 eligibility also requires the unit's memory read.
Can I use an SD Connect C4 or another DoIP interface?
For these head unit conversions we work with an ENET cable. Ask before you plan around a different interface. The VCI guide covers cables for other coding.
Will my map code still work?
A map code is tied to the VIN and the map region. After the conversion, order a code for the Europe region.

Vehicle Connection Interfaces (VCI)
Pick the right OBD cable for your Mercedes coding job. We match your VIN to the cable your chassis needs: Openport for CAN, ENET + AT adapter for DoIP.
