Star 3 Coding

Star 3 Coding

Learn how to perform Star 3 coding on Mercedes-Benz vehicles using timeback and enhanced certificates.

Overview

Star 3 coding allows you to modify ECU configurations on Mercedes-Benz vehicles. This guide covers the timeback process, which is essential for accessing older certificate types that enable coding operations.

What is Star 3 Coding?

Star 3 coding refers to the process of modifying ECU (Electronic Control Unit) configurations on Mercedes-Benz vehicles. This includes:

  • Enabling or disabling features
  • Adjusting vehicle parameters
  • Modifying ECU behavior

Prerequisites

  • Diagnostic Toolkit 9 (DTS) with a SeCOC project
  • AFTERSALES_ENHANCED certificate valid for 2025 (available from our ZenZefi service - coming soon)
  • Access to the target ECU (not the EZS223 gateway)
  • Timeback tokens (25 tokens per ECU)

Important Notes

  • You cannot perform timeback on the EZS223 gateway
  • Each timeback request costs 25 tokens
  • The ECU certificate must start with 62,01,83,
  • After timeback, you can use Development Enhanced and Variant Coding certificates for coding operations
  • At the end of coding, you'll need to sync the time back through SCN Secoc Sync (coming soon)
